What is it used for?
A vaginal speculum allows a doctor, nurse practitioner, or other trained clinician to gently open the vaginal walls so they can:
- Perform a pelvic examination
- Collect a Pap smear (cervical cancer screening)
- Examine the cervix
- Investigate abnormal bleeding, pain, or infections
- Perform certain minor gynecological procedures
